UK: Down but not defeated!

Yesterday it were official that "I Need You Now" debuted at #40 in the UK singles chart, with sales of.... Even though it could have been worse, this was not what we expected and hoped for. Most people thought it would go top 20 at least. And i´m afraid that the chance of it climbing isn´t very big.  It´s dropping rather quickly on Itunes and the airplay support will most likely reduce. Even though this single choice was shocking the song has grown a lot, and is actually really brilliant. But there´s 2 problems with this release,  the song is without a doubt a grower that you have to hear many times before you like it and also that it were released way too late. Why they released it at this point is even more shocking than the single choice itself. I guess their reason is that Agnes hadn´t got the time to promote it earlier, but still, i think it would have done much better if it were released earlier even without promotion.

Even though Agnes is going to tour with the Clubland Tour i don´t think it´ll have much impact for "I Need You Now", i´m guessing it´ll drop quickly in the singles chart too. But does this mean the end for Agnes in the UK? No i don´t think so, even though it´ll be 100 times harder to have a hit after this, it´s not impossible. I can exclusively tell you that the 3rd single is being planned right now and will be released next year. According to my source the 3rd single will be announced soon. And what can it be? "On And On" has got enormous support, but the UK label stated that it were "too euro" to work in the UK, why should they have changed their mind about that? But "On And On" is doing well in Europe right now, climbing the charts in Belgium, Italy, Switzerland & France. And has already been top 20 in Denmark, Poland & Holland. Another possibility is that they will go for a brand new song, as "Secret Love"...
So my conclusion is that even though "I Need You Now" didn´t become a real smash, there´s still hope for Agnes in the UK! And hey let´s face it, top 40 is not bad, not bad at all for a artist who has only released 1 single there before.

  1. It would be weird if they go for On and On now, I love the song, but if they didn't wat it the first time, why should they go with it now? Then I think Secret Love would be a good choice, as it's uptempo and has the same feeling of Release Me ( agnes said in an interview with scandipop ) so this might work. INYN is a very beautiful song, but not a floorsmasher and mayby they expected something bigger.

3 Options for UK I think: Secret Love, Big Blue Wall ( and On and On)

  2. Yes, the remix of Big Blue Wall might do well. Nothing is going to have the impact that Release Me had, a song like that only comes along once in a generation. I feel very sorry for Agnes as she has worked SO hard with the INYN promo in the UK, but I'm sure that it is in her nature to bounce back and not be deterred.

  3. Maybe the remix of Big Blue Wall for third single?
As much as I love You Rain I don´t think that would be a good option at all for single #3, as it is a grower like INYN. She needs something really instant this time.

  4. On And On too euro? So UK has such a different taste in music that it works every else in Europe except in UK? That's just BS. They always think they know better so they had to remix a track that was probably never meant to be released as a single and look how well that turned out. Why can't they just go with the flow?

  5. The problem with Agnes' British label is that they are marketing her as a Swedish dancefloor sensation which is a bit wrong IMO.
They should get her out there as the massive Pop sensation she is, that's why On & On would've worked out better than the remix for I Need You Now.
I hope they give On & On a chance, since it's being relatively successful across Europe. The remix version of Big Blue Wall is too similar to I Need You Now, hence it won't work.
I'm hoping for On & On or the new Secret Love to come out... ou even a revamped version of Love Love Love!! :D

PS.: "Release Me" is #1 on the Portuguese iTunes Pop Chart!!! :D

  6. Där insåg du till sist att du tog i lite för mycket när du dömde ut Agnes chanser i England i ett tidigare inlägg.

  7. I actually think it´s hard to know what would be the best choice as the 3rd single.. My heart belongs to On And On, since i feel it´s Agnes´ best song, but i´m still unsure if that´s the right choice now. They obviously can´t do a gamble again, they have to go with something safe this time!
Nice to hear everyones thoughts! Think i will do a poll about this after the one i have now is closed..

Da1000: Oh cool that she´s nr1 on there :) Pretty interesting that they are the only country besides the US who uses that cover for Release Me btw..

    Marcus: "Till sist"..
Jag tror de flesta vart ganska paffa med att det gick så knapert för I Need You Now, och självklart kan man väl få ändra sig eller? Så kände jag just då, men nu känner jag såhär..
